Teatro Biondo in Palermo was designed in 1899 by the municipal engineer Nicolò Mineo, culturally close to the school of Damiani Almeyda, and completed in 1903 in 19th century classical style.
The entrance is inserted in the center of the composite facade, with double loggia concluded by triangular tympanum. The interior design was entrusted to the company Li Vigni, close to Basile and Ducrot, and is inspired by the typical Art Nouveau style common in Palermo at that time.
Still in operation, hosts prose, music and dance performances in the Sala Grande and in the Sala Strehler. Members of the Associazione Teatro Stabile Biondo di Palermo are the Sicilian Region, the City of Palermo and the Andrea Biondo Foundation.
A curiosity that fills us with pride: in granting the license in 1899, the City of Palermo forced the Biondo brothers to set up a great Cafe on the ground floor of the Theatre, to make more decent the streets near the building.
And that’s how Antico Caffè Biondo was born, a casket of gastronomic culture ready to welcome all the people of Palermo and visitors to our beautiful city.
A place designed to make Palermo even more beautiful!
